Port Blair: From turquoise blue water to white sandy beaches

Port Blair is one of the most beautiful places in India. The feeling of being in a different country begins on the flight to Port Blair. Take a window seat and take a look outside when you’re just about to land. You will be greeted with a view of white sandy islands surrounded by a band of clear turquoise blue water, becoming a sudden, sharp deep sea blue.

Port Blair is the largest town in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a union territory of India. It is a major base for the Indian Navy, Indian Airforce and the Indian coast guard, and is also famous for the Cellular jail that was set up during the rule of the British. It is also home to several museums.

There are many popular tourist spots around Port Blair and beautiful islands that are all accessible by boat. Some of the beaches around Port Blair that you must visit are Corbyn's Cove, North Bay Island, Ross Island, Neil Island and Havelock Island. You can stay in some of the best resorts in Port Blair for a full experience of the beauty of the place as well as make sure you don’t miss out on all the activities available. Consider staying at Megapode Camping Resort or Sea Princess, or even The Paradise SKI Resort

The beaches are breathtaking - clear water, white sands and not very crowded. You can jump in for a swim, and if you’re a little adventurous, go snorkelling, diving or even ocean kayaking. There’s  a whole world underwater that survives on the coral reefs along the coasts.

It’s not only the beaches that will cause your jaw to drop, the tropical forests are home to many species of birds and animals, some of which are endemic species that can be found here. For example, the Narcondam hornbill and the Andaman Wild Boar.

Photographers’ paradise, Port Blair is one place that works as the Indian shoot location for many models world over. While the tsunami of 2004 did some damage to the city, it has bounced back and is ever more ready for tourists!

Go on a nature walk and see limestone caves, mud volcanoes, and learn about the Jarawa tribe, which lives in the protected forests on the islands. These forests are not open to the public and you need to be in a convoy to pass through. Also, the corals, shells and so on cannot be taken away from the beaches. This is strictly monitored as the corals are facing extinction.

There is so much to see and do in Port Blair that the only thing you need to do is take any of the Port Blair flights and enjoy your holiday!
