Veli Tourist Village: Horse Riding on the beach

Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Trivandrum, is the capital of Kerala. Mahatma Gandhi coined the name “Evergreen city of India” for this city because of the lush greenery in which the city is always steeped. This is one of the oldest cities of India and is one of the best cities to live in in the state.

Close to nine kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram is Veli village, which has been developed as a tourist spot. Although open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. you will still feel like it’s not enough time to enjoy the place. The top tourist attractions here are the Veli lake and the Shanghumukham beach, which is just a walk across the bridge from the Veli lake. For a small fee, it’s a fabulous picnic spot for some quality family time.

Veli village is the hub of tourist activity as it has so many things to do, including boating in the Veli lagoon and other water sports on the lake. The displayed works of famous artist-sculptor Kanayi Kunjuraman is a must-see. These fantastic figures are created in grass and are accompanied by stone sculptures at the landscaped gardens. Enjoy strolling through the gardens and stopping to feed the fish in the ponds. Make sure to stop at the floating restaurant for a meal with amazing views of the lake as well as the sea.

After enjoying your meal, you can cross the floating bridge that connects the village to the Shanghumukham beach. Horse riding along the beach tops the list of things to do in Veli. There’s also a children’s amusement park here, so the kids can enjoy their evening with the horses, rides, ice cream and family in the picturesque setting of water, sky and sand.

A day at Veli tourist village complete with horse riding on the beach sounds particularly tempting, and the way to experience this is to get on one of the Thiruvananthapuram flights, drive to Veli village, spend your day there and then return to beautiful Thiruvananthapuram by night.
