Mewar festival in Udaipur

The most Romantic city, the city of lakes, the Kashmir of Rajasthan, Venice of the east; are the names given to this beautiful city Udaipur. An enchanting town which attracts thousands of tourists with its old yet modern touch, the temples, palaces, lakes, gardens, reminisces from the past, historical antiques and much more.

Udaipur offers some of the most beautiful places to visit. The floating Lake palace, for instance, provides a majestic pleasure. A magical place which used to be a palace but now is converted into a 5 star hotel. Other than the Lake Palace there is also the Jag Mandir, Monsoon Palace, Jagdish Temple, SagasjiMandir, FatehSagar Lake, Lake Pichola, MaharanaPratap Memorial, Bagore-ki-Haveli, Shilpgram to name a few. Every place in Udaipur has been maintained really well and serves as a great experience for the tourists.

The Udaipur market offers a lot for the shopaholics too. It has everything varying from the most ethnic wear to the modern things that will perfectly fit in your wardrobe. From Jewellery, wooden toys, artifacts, handicrafts to beautiful apparels and paintings, you can find them all in these markets. For those who are not really shopping fans, there also is the Vintage Collection of Classic Cars Museum with the most magnificent and antique cars owned by the Maharaja of Udaipur.

Apart from all the scenic beauties it offers, the Mewar Festival is something that has to be witnessed by every tourist who appreciated culture, history and colours! This is a major festival of Rajasthan and its purpose is to celebrate the arrival of spring season. The whole city gathers to dress the idols of Isar and Gangaur and then carry them in processions to various parts of the city till they reach the Gangaurghat at Lake Pichola.

During the festival, the whole of Udaipur is lit up with lights and colors. The women there can be seen dressed in their best colorful and ethnic outfits. After the ceremonies are finished, the whole city involves in dances and processions, singing folk songs and exquisitely promoting their culture and all this is concluded with splendid fireworks.

Having a tropical climate, Udaipur is generally really hot in summers. The best time to visit Udaipur is in the winters, preferably September to March.

Udaipur flights connect Udaipur to almost all the prime cities. Dabok airport, also called MaharanaPratap Airport is situated around 24km from the city center. Daily flights are available from Delhi, Mumbai and Jaipur.
